Today on Espresso Tales, I chat with Australian author, Sonia Stanizzo, whose second novel, Chasing Trouble is now available.
Sonia Stanizzo is a contemporary romance writer who lives in
the beautiful South Coast of New South Wales with her childhood
sweetheart/husband and their three children. When she’s not dreaming up stories about couples and their road to finding love, sometimes bumpy but always a lot of fun, she can be found taking pole dancing lessons (purely for the fun and exercise), reading, and writing.
Megan: Sonia, thank you for joining me today to have a chat about your new book and your writing. Firstly, can I get you a drink?
Sonia: I'd love a tea, thank you.
Megan: Absolutely. Now, tell me a little about your new book?
Sonia: Chasing Trouble is about family secrets and a second chance at love. Ava Cardona arrives home after being away for 10 years. She’s stuck on a farm with the man who once broke her heart and needs to deal with the pain and secrets of her past to be able to trust in love again.
Megan: Family secrets is one of my favourite things to read about. The dynamics within families are so fascinating. Chasing Trouble is a contemporary romance, is that your favourite genre to read too?
Sonia: Though I do favour contemporary and paranormal/fantasy. I get in moods of what I like to read and at the moment I’m loving historical and really enjoying The Devilish Duke by Maddison Michaels.
Megan: I loved The Devilish Duke! One of my favourite books of the year. In terms of your writing, do you find it energises you or exhausting?
Sonia: Writing exhausts me.When I have a steady day of writing, I want to take a nap when I’m done.I think I focus so much energy in getting the words down, it drains me.
Megan: Early bird writer or night owl?
Sonia: Neither. I’m not a morning person at all!So when I’m up and functioning, I’m usually getting the stuff I need done around the house or off to work. And at night, all I want to do is curl up in my pjs and watch TV. So I’m an afternooner. Not sure if that’s a word. Lol.
Megan: I might need to add that to my options - afternooner - I like it. Do you find you plan your novels for when sit down to right or do you let the characters take control?
Sonia: With my last two books I’ve been more panster with a dash of planner. I can only plan scene by scene, not the whole story. I jot down what I think I might want to happen in the chapter and go from there. Most of the time I go right off track.
